Organizations have devised a range of program strategies to assist people in their own
economical development. Some have opted for the direct delivery of financial services
to small and micro enterprises at the community level, while others have devised means
to empower the village community and provide them with a means for income generation. It
is with a mix of these strategies that SDI has launched the Handloom Project in Kohilawa,
a village about 6km from the city.
This project has been set in place in order to encourage women, from low income families to learn the new skill of carpet weaving. By
doing this, these women will be creating a sustainable income for their families independent of sexist work environments.
